Roger Söderberg sees Kamara beat Olympian
Katende to make it five Swedish Crowns
International Babacar Kamara was voted best
male boxer of the 2011 Swedish championships in Sundsvall some
400 kms north of Stockholm. He picked up his fifth Swedish
championship and defended his 81 kgs from last year. In the
final he beat home town favourite Kennedy Kennedy, the Swedish
2008 Olympian.
Katende who had returned from the WSB series
where he boxes for Mexico City and had his London trainer Jose
Paolo Muhongo in corner. Katende has spent some time with the
Harringay club. But it was to no avail. Kamara who has moved
down from 91 kgs is the somewhat bigger of the two boxers and
made good use of height and reach. Katende tried to rally last
round, but it was too late. 12 – 8 for Kamara.
Salomo N´Tuve the silvermedalist at 51 kgs in
Liverpool 2008 won his first Swedish title at 56 kgs with close
decision against 2004 – 2010 champion Bashir Hassan. Hassan won
a bronze in Liverpool at 57 kgs. N´Tuve scored with first point
and then looked slightly more focused to hang on to a close 7 –
6 victory.
In a match between Swedish quarterfinalist
from the European championships in Moscow 2010 Leon Chartoi won
clearly enough against Antony Yigit at 69. Yigit was the
reigning Swedish champion at 64 kgs, but was unable to make the
weight and had to move. In the final, however, it was however
clear the Chartoi still is the more solid of the two at 69 kgs.
11 – 4.
Among the womans´ there was an upset at 64
kgs, when Swedens only medallist from last years World
championships Klara Svensson was outpointed by Armine Sinabian.
Sinabian fought a clever tactical fight and seemed constantly to
be moving away in his wrong direction for the attacking Svensson.
Jenny Hardingz the Swedish hope for the
London Olympics at 51 kgs, won as expected. She won the European
championships in 2009 at 48 kgs. But at 33 she is not getting
any younger.
